The crops were created by using a Canon 1D with an EF 50mm Compact Macro and 37mm of extension tubes (25+12).   The images were shot as RAW using custom WB and converted using Adobe CameraRaw, 1:1 enlargement.  The file was sharpened .5/125/0 and saved.  The original file was then downsampled (75% or 65% of original, depending on which particular setup was used for that patch), cropped, sharpened, and text added to indicate which patch it represents.
